SMALL STATE,
BIG OPERA

OUR MISSION
Small state, Big opera

The mission of the Opera Company of Middlebury (OCM) is to bring professional-level, quality live opera productions and experiences to our region. We also maintain a robust educational program for emerging professionals and teen singers while expanding our broader communities’ understanding of opera through outreach programs.

We believe that opera has the power to transform lives, inspire wonder, and ignite the imagination. Through our exceptional productions and immersive experiences, we seek to connect with audiences on a profound emotional level, bringing joy, passion, and beauty to their lives while also nurturing the next generation of opera lovers and opera performers.

We produce classics from the operatic repertoire as well as contemporary works, highlighting both the power of the operatic tradition and opera as a modern art form. Our productions feature the finest established and emerging talent, engage a new generation of performers through our Young Artist and Youth Opera programs, and share with our community an eternal yet ever-changing art form. We aim to make opera financially accessible by offering free ticketing programs including Opera Under 26 and a special ticket program for Veterans for our production of Glory Denied (2023), as well as scholarships for our Youth Opera programs.

We are proud of our 20+ year history, and are committed to continuing to deliver world class opera with an approach that is fresh, innovative, relevant, and forward-thinking.
